Movie night popcorn

Popped in plain oil, dressed in infused oil afterward. Popping temperatures are far too hot for an infusion, which is why almost every recipe that pops in cannabutter wastes most of it.

Set your infusion strength

Tell the site how strong your butter or oil is and every recipe rewrites its ingredient amounts to match.

Ingredients

servings
  • 3 tbsp infused coconut oil

Set your infusion strength above and this splits into infused and plain coconut oil to hit whatever dose you want.

  • ½ cuppopcorn kernels
  • 3 tbspplain coconut oilfor popping
  • 1 tspfine salt
  • 2 tbspnutritional yeastoptional

Method

  1. 01

Heat the plain oil in a large heavy pot over medium-high with three kernels in it. When all three pop, the oil is ready.

  2. 02

Add the rest of the kernels, cover, and shake the pot every few seconds until the popping slows to a couple of seconds between pops.

    4 min

  3. 03

Tip into a wide bowl straight away so it does not steam and go soft.

  4. 04

Melt the infused oil gently — barely warm is enough — and drizzle it over in stages, tossing between each. A single pour lands on a handful of pieces and doses them all.

  5. 05

Season with salt and the nutritional yeast, toss again, and divide into six bowls rather than sharing one. Popcorn is the easiest food on this site to eat far more of than you planned.

Built on

Standard stovetop popcorn: ½ cup kernels to 3 tbsp fat for popping, dressed with more fat and salt after.

Every recipe here names the conventional ratio underneath it. The cannabis part is a fat substitution, not new chemistry — so if the base is sound and the substitution is sound, the recipe is sound.

Before you eat it

  • These are estimates, not lab results. Treat the low end as the honest number and the high end as the thing to plan around.
  • Start with one serving and wait two hours. Edibles take 30 to 120 minutes to come on, and the most common mistake is redosing before the first one lands.
  • Test a small piece first. Potency is rarely even across a batch, especially if the infusion was not mixed thoroughly.
  • Label anything you store with the date and the estimated dose, and keep it away from children, pets and anyone who did not ask for it.
  • If you overdo it: you are not in danger, but it will be unpleasant. Find somewhere quiet, drink water, and wait it out. Do not drive.
